UCSD Majors Requiring Mathematics

Below is a list of UCSD majors that require courses in mathematics. For more information, refer to the UCSD catalog or contact the academic department.  Students should consult their college for any required mathematics course work to satisfy their college's lower-division general education and breadth requirements.

Majors that require at least Math 20ABC:           

  • Bioinformatics
  • Biology (Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology)
  • Chemistry (all majors)
  • Earth Sciences (all majors)
  • Economics (Management Science)
  • Engineering (all majors)
  • Mathematics (all majors)
  • Mathematics and Economics (joint major)
  • Music or Visual Arts (ICAM) (20AB or 10ABC)
  • Physics (all majors)
  • Psychology (B.S.) 

Majors that require at least Math 10ABC:

  • Biology (all except Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology)
  • Cognitive Science
  • Economics (not Management Science)
  • Environmental Systems (all majors; Earth Sciences track - or 20ABC)
  • International Studies (Economics) (or 20ABC)
  • Music or Visual Arts (ICAM) (or 20AB)
  • Psychology (B.A.) (at least 10A)
